This policy explains how Azan - Prayer Times (the "App"), developed by Rashel Khan ("we", "us"), handles information when you download and use the App on Android.
The App asks for location access (precise or approximate) so it can:
Prayer-time calculations happen entirely on your device using standard astronomical formulas — your coordinates are never sent anywhere for these features, even if your device has no internet connection at all.
If you'd rather not share your device's location, you can instead pick a city manually from the in-app list (Settings → Location) — the App works exactly the same way, just using that city's fixed coordinates instead of GPS.
To show today's weather at the top of the Home screen, the App sends your coordinates (rounded to roughly 100 metres of precision) to the free, third-party Open-Meteo weather service. This request:
If there's no internet connection, this lookup simply fails silently and the weather is hidden — prayer times, alarms, and the surahs saved in the app keep working.
Six short surahs are stored in the App and play with no connection. The other surahs are recited by Aaqib Azeez and published by him on Wikimedia Commons under CC0 or CC BY-SA 4.0. When you press play on one of those, the App asks Wikimedia’s servers for that recording. The request contains the surah file name and your device’s network address, which Wikimedia receives under their privacy policy. We do not receive that request and we do not add an account or advertising ID to it.
Choices you make in the App — calculation method, Asr school (madhab), notification toggles, Azan sound, language, theme color, manually-entered locations, and similar preferences — are saved only in local storage on your device. We have no server, so we never receive, see, or store this information ourselves.
Prayer-time and Azan alerts are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device using Android's own alarm and notification systems. No notification content is generated by, or passes through, any server we operate.
The Qibla direction and distance to the Kaaba are calculated on your device. The map on the Qibla screen is downloaded as map images ("tiles") for the area around you: on Android from OpenStreetMap, and on iPhone from Apple Maps. These requests reveal only which map area is being shown, plus the network address any internet request carries. They contain no name, email, advertising ID, or other identifier, and the map is only loaded while the Qibla screen is open.
| Permission | Why the App needs it |
|---|---|
| Location (precise/approximate) | Calculate prayer times and local weather. |
| Internet | Fetch today's weather (see 2.2) and the Qibla screen's map (see 2.3). Prayer times, alarms and the Qibla direction itself work fully offline. |
| Notifications | Show prayer-time and Azan alerts. |
| Alarms & reminders (exact alarms) | Ring the Azan at the precise, correct minute for each prayer, even in Doze/battery-saver mode. |
| Ignore battery optimizations (optional) | Some device manufacturers aggressively kill background apps, which can silently stop Azan alarms from ringing. This optional exemption keeps alarms reliable; the App only wakes briefly at each prayer time and uses no background data. |
| Run at startup (boot completed) | Re-schedule today's prayer alarms after your device restarts. |
| Vibrate / full-screen alert / foreground service (media playback) | Play the Azan sound and show the ringing screen reliably, the same way an alarm clock app does. |
The App is a general-audience utility (prayer times, Quran audio, calendar) that does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Since we don't collect personal data at all, this applies equally regardless of the user's age.
All settings and cached data live in the App's local storage on your device. Uninstalling the App, or clearing its storage from Android Settings → Apps, permanently deletes this data. Because we never receive a copy of it, there is nothing for us to separately delete on our end.
The App talks to Open-Meteo for weather data (section 2.2), and to OpenStreetMap (Android) or Apple Maps (iPhone) for the Qibla map (section 2.3). Please see their own terms and privacy policies for how they handle these requests.
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the App's release notes.
